Hey, there! My name is Lauren Koch.
Fun fact: Koch is pronounced “cook”… which is both convenient and ironic, given the content of this blog. 🙂
I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. (Imo’s pizza and toasted rav’s, anyone?!)
Very long story short, I decided to attend Kansas State University (EMAW!) and pursue a degree in Architectural Engineering.
I met my husband, Andrew, in Fluid Dynamics class in 2013. To say that our courtship was “super nerdy and awkward” is an understatement. Nevertheless, we are both wired to be “all in” and we went from 0-to-married in 10 months. When you know, you know!
After we graduated in 2015, we moved down to Wichita, KS for our brand new jobs.
Andrew is an Estimator for a general contractor – he works with budgets for construction projects, and generally is a numbers nerd. I am a Mechanical Engineer – basically, I design HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings. It’s pretty cool. (haha HVAC pun.)
Despite my engineering background, my biggest passion is for cooking and baking! I like to say “if I love you, I feed you” and “food is my love language.”
If you’re familiar with the 5 Love Languages, I am a mashup between Service and Quality Time. In my opinion, food is a perfect physical manifestation of those two! Not only I can serve other people by making them food, but I can’t think of a better form of quality time than sitting down and talking over a meal! So I love food. And I love to love on other people with my love of food. Basically, food is love.
Another tidbit about me – I LOVE corgis!! I have two – Remey and Griffin. They are my fur-babies and they will probably appear on the blog here and there. 🙂
So that’s a little about me. If you want to know why I started My Slice of Joy, please visit About: This Blog.
